Raw Canvas

When working with this technique, I use a lot of water and acrylic paint on raw (unprimed) canvas. It is best to not have expectations about the outcome because water has a life of its own. It is not easy to control. It continuously teaches me how to let go of control and play with the water instead. The result of this technique is the flow of colors into smooth gradients.

"Soterrada" XP 2022

In 2022 I made my first big painting on raw canvas. A Christmas gift for my grandmother, Soterraña. My idea was to do an abstract landscape. I only planned out the shapes of the sun at the top and the water on the left. The rest were free-handed shapes, made only to fit around each other, but with little to no previous thought. The phrases in the painting are in Spanish and are excerpts taken from a 15-page memoir that my grandmother wrote about her life. Fun fact: this was one of the firsts versions of NOODLPPL.
